Madison Local Schools is excited to announce Mr. Dan Baker as our new Head Varsity Football coach.

A message from Coach Baker:

“As a high school teacher, I have worked with students of many ages in order to help them to achieve academic success throughout their career at both Bath and Perry High School. As a football coach, I’ve grown programs at the schools that I have been a part of Perry, Shawnee and Bath. As the Head coach at Perry High School, over the course of the past three seasons, I have led the program to the 1st and 2nd ever Conference Championships and 1st ever OHSAA Playoff Victory in the over 70-year school history. I was named Conference Coach of the Year and District Coach of the Year in 2019. At Perry as the Defensive and Special Teams Coordinator we achieved the first winning season in over a decade at the school and achieved the first ever Playoff berth. We also achieved a school record number of defensive selections to the all-conference awards during that time. In all three programs that I have been a part of, I have helped to run the strength and conditioning program, which in turn has produced multiple student athletes that have been able to go on to the next level in order to achieve an education and to continue playing sports. While at Bath I helped to facilitate the first winning season in over a decade, in large part due to the play of the linebackers, two of whom were all conference and one was all-state, both being the first time either had received any post season awards. At Shawnee I took over as the defensive coordinator of a winless team and helped to instill the principles and sound defense that helped to allow the team to achieve our first victory in over two seasons.

The parents of my student-athletes, the administrators of the schools above me and most importantly, the players themselves believe in my ability to build character in my players. My units have consistently been described as being “well coached,” “disciplined,” and “well executing” most every year. I also have a passion for helping to move players to the next level of football, be it be at the D3 level, such as Bluffton, the NAIA level, such as St. Francis, all the way up through the Bowl Championship Subdivision at Air Force. I have been described by my coaching peers, and by the parents of players, to have a fantastic ability to “build positive relationships” with the players whom I have coached. I have done nearly everything that there is to do year-round as an assistant coach – Coaching in season, calling plays, organizing equipment, recruitment of players in hallways, organizing rides, communicating with parents, monitoring grades, running multiple strength and conditioning programs, etc. etc.

In short, I do not think you will find anyone better suited to be the Head Coach of your program in order to accomplish your goals.  I am excited to become a member of the Mohawk Family!”
