Virtual White Christmas

White Christmas

White Christmas

Here at Madison, we usually do a large assembly on the last day of school called "White Christmas," in which all students from grades kindergarten through 12th come to the high school gym and have a giant holiday-themed assembly. There are usually performances by high school band and choir, middle school choir, elementary music, individual classes, and teacher skits. Santa and Mrs. Clause often make appearances, and the highlight of the day is the "senior walk," where seniors walk in with the kindergarteners as a tribute to the newest and oldest classes in the district.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, we are unable to host such a large assembly this year. Instead, Ms. Murphy’s Madison Media class was tasked with creating a "Virtual White Christmas" to take its place.

“We’ve been working hard at gathering skits and holiday highlights of students and staff to try and make the experience as fun as possible under the circumstances,” says Ms. Murphy. The Media students have been working incredibly hard to get it filmed. The class was originally tasked with 60-90 minutes of footage, but then cut it down to about 50 minutes. They even found a way to do a socially distanced "senior walk" to keep the tradition.

“I think it'll be a great alternative to our usual White Christmas assembly,” Ms. Murphy adds.
