Wrestling & Girls’ Basketball teams prepare for end of seasons
Congratulations to our Wrestling and Girls’ Basketball team for their successful winter seasons to date!
The Madison Wrestling team competed at the Southwestern Buckeye League (SWBL) Tournament held at Bellbrook High School on February 5-6. Devin Oligee, senior, won his weight class of 182 lbs, and is now a 4x SWBL Champion. In addition, Devin was named “Most Outstanding Wrestler” for the SWBL. Preston Brown, junior, also earned first place, winning the 285 lbs weight class. The Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) Wrestling Sectionals are set to begin Saturday, February 27, 9:00 AM at Madeira High School.
Our Girls’ Basketball team achieved their first SWBL title since 2016, finishing 10-2 in league play and 12-8 overall. They moved to up to 13-8 with a OHSAA first-round sectional win against Oakwood on Tuesday, February 9. The team will play in the Sectional Semifinals on Tuesday, February 16, at Middletown High School vs Fenwick at 7:30 PM.
“We’ve had a set-back with COVID-19 as a district, and the majority of our teams throughout the winter athletics season have been directly affected in some way,” explains Athletic Director Matt Morrison. “With proper preparation and the support of the district, we’ve been able to nearly complete our full winter season schedules for all teams. The extra time and effort that has been placed by our administration, teachers, custodial staff, student athletes, and volunteers has made this possible; we’re very grateful these student athletes have had the chance to compete in a safe manner.”
Wish our teams good luck as they head into Sectionals and Sectional Semifinals!
