At Madison High School, one of the highest honors of the school is to be a member of the National Honor Society. To become a member, a student must have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a weighted scale and must be recommended by faculty and community for high achievement in leadership, character and service. High scholarship does not automatically bring membership. Final decisions on membership rest with a five-member faculty council, excluding advisor, appointed by the Principal.

Members attend monthly meetings, participate in service projects and conduct a tapping ceremony in the spring. Members whose weighted GPA falls below 3.5 will be put on probation for one semester and dismissed if their GPA does not reach 3.5 by the next grading period. Members who commit offenses that are flagrant violations of school rules or civil laws will be dismissed through a vote of the faculty council. Members who commit minor infractions will be warned once. The faculty council will vote on dismissal for continued minor infractions. Parents will be notified of all dismissals/warnings.
